Potable water: Polo residents appeal to government for intervention






 Residents of Polo community in Yola south LGA of Adamawa state have appealed to the Local Government Council (LGC) to assist the area by providing water to reduce the current water deficit


s being experienced by the area due to lack of borehole and water pumps.


The residents, who spoke with the reporter during the week, said that the appeal was necessary due to the hardship faced by people who have to trek to long distance in order to fetch water which in most case is unclean for consumption. 

One of the residents, Mal. Bello Yahaya, expressed sadness with regard to lack of potable water for the people, appealing to the LGC to do the needful for the betterment of the inhabitants.

He recalled that years ago, Polo area had functional water pumps with steady supply of water, but negligence and misuse of water pumps led to its malfunction.

Bello said that the situation has become unbearable to them as residents have to buy water at high cost or choose to trek to the river side in search of water in other to cater for their daily needs.

Another resident who identified himself as Musa Turu, said that majority of the boreholes in the area are faulty, adding that the only option left for the residents is to transport water on bicycles or trek to the river side. 

Some farmer at Polo area have expressed concern over the acute potable water scarcity in the area which makes it difficult for them to access clean water or trek long distance to access clean water for consumption.

The residents therefore, on behalf of the community, appealed to the Local Government Council (LGC) and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to come to their aid and provide more sources of potable water to make less of disease outbreak in the area as a result of consuming filthy water.
